The practice is an accredited training practice.
As part of the GP training programme, the practice undertakes the training of GP Registrars. These doctors are fully qualified and experienced in hospital medicine, and are starting their career in general practice.
As part of this training programme, the practice will normally accommodate two trainee GPs at different levels of their training programme. They will work with the practice for a period of 6 months – 1 year to gain experience in the sort of medical problems encountered in general practice.
We also assist in the training of medical students at all levels on a regular basis.
FY2s – we are also involved in the training of FY2 doctors who have been qualified for at least a year who are spending 4 months in general practice.
As part of the training program some consultations are video recorded. These recordings are held securely within the practice and the only people who have access to these are the trainee and trainer. The trainer will review the videos with his/her trainee and give feedback – then these are erased. This will help the trainee to improve their consultation skills if necessary. Patients are asked to sign a consent form; however, you do not have to agree to this. If you do not wish your consultation to be recorded you just have to let the receptionist know.
